Identifying Emotion in Static Face Images

چکیده

We use combinations of feedforward networks trained to recognize emotions in face images to achieve excellent generalization. Networks trained with an input encoding of face features (eyes and mouth) achieved about an 84% generalization rate on novel faces. A similar encoding technique applied to the entire face with the same number of parameters achieved only a 60% generalization rate. This suggests that the actual representational scheme used by the brain to identify emotions may consist of face features rather than the entire face.

Putting motion in emotion: Do dynamic presentations increase preschooler's recognition of emotion?

In prior research, preschoolers were surprisingly poor at naming the emotion purportedly signaled by prototypical facial expressions—when shown as static images. To determine whether this poor performance is due to the use of static stimuli, rather than dynamic, we presented preschoolers (3–5 years) with facial expressions as either static images or dynamic audiovisual clips. Dynamic clips pres...

Educational Facial Emotion Recognition in Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder: A Clinical Trial Study

Objective: The disability to recognize facial emotions is one of the behavioral problems in autistic children. This study was designed to evaluate the effect of education on the promotion of face recognition. Methods: This single-blind clinical trial study was conducted on children with autism. The participants were allocated with random sampling to the two groups. Autistic children in the int...

Comparing Template-based, Feature-based and Supervised Classification of Facial Expressions from Static Images

We compare the performance and generalization capabilities of different low-dimensional representations for facial emotion classification from static face images showing happy, angry, sad, and neutral expressions. Three general strategies are compared: The first approach uses the average face for each class as a generic template and classifies the individual facial expressions according to the ...

Categorical Perception in Facial Emotion Classification

We present an automated emotion recognition system that is capable of identifying six basic emotions (happy, surprise, sad, angry, fear, disgust) in novel face images. An ensemble of simple feed-forward neural networks are used to rate each of the images. The outputs of these networks are then combined to generate a score for each emotion. The networks were trained on a database of face images ...

Pattern Recognition System to Classify Student’s Emotion using Forehead Wrinkles

Facial expressions play an essential role in communications in social interactions with other human beings which deliver rich information about their emotions. Here, we propose an efficient method for identifying the expressions of the students to recognize their comprehension from the facial expressions in static images containing the frontal view of the human face. Our goal is to categorize t...
